Device Clinic Nurse (Outpatient) Position Summary

The Device Clinic Nurse provides expert, patient-centered care for individuals with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs)-including pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac resynchronization therapy devices (CRT), and implantable loop recorders (ILRs). This role is responsible for in-clinic and remote device monitoring, interrogation and programming under provider guidance, triage of clinically significant alerts/arrhythmias, patient education, and coordination of care with electrophysiologists, cardiologists, and the wider outpatient team. The nurse ensures safe, evidence-based care, regulatory compliance, and exceptional patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Device Management

- Perform in-clinic device interrogations, analyze diagnostics, identify alerts, and document findings; perform limited device programming per protocol and provider direction.

- Triage remote monitoring transmissions (e.g., CareLink, Merlin.net, LATITUDE, BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring); escalate clinically significant events.

- Recognize and respond to device- and arrhythmia-related issues, ensuring timely provider notification and patient follow-up.

- Support pre- and post-implant workflows, including education, incision checks, and follow-up.

- Prepare patients and equipment for in-office and procedural visits.

- Provide evidence-based patient education.

Care Coordination & Communication

- Collaborate with providers to develop and execute care plans.

- Coordinate follow-up intervals and schedule appointments.

- Facilitate referrals, imaging, and authorizations.

- Document concisely in the EHR and communicate clearly with patients and families.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

- Maintain accurate EHR and device platform records.

- Adhere to regulatory standards and clinic protocols.

- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.

- Support recall/advisory workflows and device population management.

Qualifications

Required:

- Active RN license.

- BLS certification.

- 1-2 years of cardiac/telemetry/EP experience.

Preferred:

- BSN.

- HRS/IBHRE certification.

- Prior device clinic experience.
